The history of Mirrors.ie.
Mirrors.ie was born from a passion for art and craftsmanship that its founder, Tom Walsh, still has to this day.
It was from his secondary school art teacher that Tom was introduced to picture framing, a craft that would take the art he loved from a canvas on the table to a rightful pride-of-place on the wall.
Tom is one of the Walshs of the famous Walsh’s Pub in Ballybricken in Waterford City. While Tom worked with Ellickson Engineering serving time as a fitter when he finished school working with steels in their very busy workshop, he also spent years behind the bar in Walsh's Pub, working alongside his parents where he loved meeting the regulars and those who’d drop in for an occasional drink: hearing their songs and stories, sharing their passions and playing cards - over a few of the best bottles of Guinness in the town!
In 1998 when the pub was sold, an opportunity came about for Tom to buy an old sweet shop just around the corner at No. 24 Lower Yellow Road, where he opened up ‘The Framing Studio’. It was a space dedicated to framing beautiful art, photography and sentimental paraphernalia - jerseys, rosettes, newspaper clippings.
Tom’s skill and craftsmanship was appreciated by customers all over Ireland. By 2000, he had been spotted by a number of top interior designers who commissioned him to create frames for artwork and mirrors for Ireland’s finest hotels, restaurants, show-homes and high-fashion boutiques. Work he still proudly carries out today.
By 2002, to meet demand, Tom expanded his business buying No. 25 Lower Yellow Road and opened ‘The Mirror Gallery’ where they remained until 2008.
